Day 27 – Mount Wudang– 武当山

Day 27

It’s been a tiring day all of us who climbed Mount Wudang! Can you believe that we climbed a total of 9km?? It took us about 5 hours to complete this journey! Right now, my leg muscles ache and I could hardly walk. In addition, I think I am going to have stairs phobia, hahaJ

So let me briefly summarize our 2 days at Mount Wudang.

Saturday

We departed to another city of Hubei Province at about 7.10am. We reached the dining place for lunch, which is located at the base of the Mount Wudang about 5 + hours later. So on the bus ride, most of us slept. Especially, Geena, Jas Min and I. Jas Min woke up after sleeping for 3 hours, which was at 3am. Geena fell asleep for only 1 hour + at 5 + am and as for me, I was awake the whole night. Unbelievable, right? This was because we were settling the orders for TaoBao online shopping and after that, I was watching 宫心计, hahaJ

Back to the topic. So after lunch, we took the sight-seeing bus to 3 places of tourist attractions at Mount Wudang. They are: 太子坡、紫霄殿and南岩宫. The mountain road was zigzag and on several occasions, the bus almost collided with another bus going downwards. This is not suitable for those with motion sickness.

The beautiful Sunset!

At 7.15pm, we reached the hotel: 万豪商务酒店. We had dinner first before going back to our rooms at about 8pm. The room was not bad! BUT there are rooms with DESKTOPS and we are not in one of those roomsL It’s twin-sharing again so I shared the room with Jas Min. At 8.15pm, we went to the nearby supermarket to buy some biscuits, etc for our climb and our bus ride back to Wuhan the next day.

Sunday

At 6am, we received the morning wake up call. 45 minutes later, we had our breakfast and at 7.15am, we departed to the base of Mount Wudang to take the sight-seeing bus to 南岩宫. When we reached, we started our climb. It was very foggy. The time was 8.30am.

Along the way, there are many stairs, going upwards and downwards. Well, as it was going downwards first, some of us were at the front. But, as the climb progressed, we were starting to get tired and our pace slowed down. At last, we reached a palace (I can’t remember the name) and it was only half of the climb! We took a rest there before continuing.

One-third of the climb left and it started to drizzle. As we continued, the rain started to pour. As Sarah had extra poncho, she lent it to me. Thanks Sarah for the Poncho! The higher we climbed, the fog started to get heavier and the wind was getting stronger.

By the time we climbed up to the golden summit (the peak), most of us were drenched and my fingers were numb and cold and wet. I could hardly press the shutter of my camera when I wanted to take photos. Due to the rain, the fog was heavy and the scenery was not as beautiful as it should be without the heavy fog. We spent some time there taking photos and there is this stall that sells the Fortune Lock or Safety Lock. I bought one to bless my family and I locked it at one of the metal chains along the pavement.

After I had locked it

At 11.30am, we started to climb down. 40 to 50 minutes after our climb, a few people came forward to ask me how far they were to the golden summit. At last, at 1.20pm, we reached the place where we started. Actually, not we as I was alone for most of the climb. We then went to the dining place for lunch to wait for the others and to get some warmth, hahaJ

At 3pm, we took the sight-seeing bus to the base of Mount Wudang and then departed to Wuhan at 4.20pm. We stopped for a toilet break at about 6+pm and that’s when we decided to have MacDonald’s delivery to our dormitory as our dinner. After deciding what we wanted, we continued our ride and reached the dormitory at 9.30pm.

The MacDonald’s dinner arrived at around 10 + pm and to me, it was more like a supper than a dinner. With that, I shall end my post.

Reflections:

I am glad that I survived this climb! Thanks those who have encouraged me to go on and I am amazed at how I have managed to do that – 9km climb with only little rest and break. Thanks to光良 as listening to his songs while climbing up kind of motivated me to continue. Thanks to Jas Min for the suggestion of listening to songs while climbing. Thanks to my body and my leg muscles that carried me up Mount Wudang!
