Day 5
It is super late now and Jas Min is asleep, leaving Geena and I using our laptops. I really wanted to sleep but yet I wanted to update you guys about my day today.
11am
I woke up, still feeling sleepy as I slept at 4am last night but no matter how I tossed on my bed, sleep would not come. After washing up, I switched on my laptop and decided to do my learning plan. An hour later, I submitted it to Dr. Lau. After that, I went online to play games.
2pm
Lunch time! It was my first time trying the China’s instant noodles. It was… hmm … not bad except that the seasoning was a bit salty.

2.30pm
Betty, Yuan Yuan and Star arrived to bring us out J We gathered downstairs and discussed our next move. Half an hour later, we set out to the bus stop as we would be taking bus to the shopping area. The bus service number that we took is 549. As you all know, everything in China are cheap and that includes bus fares too! The bus fare is RMB 2 per person. Very cheap, right?

3.15pm
At last, we were on the bus and it was my first time travelling on China’s bus. The ride was bumpy and the air conditioning was bad. I kept yawning but taking photos kept me awake. About 30 minutes later, we reached the shopping area. Over here in China, one can eat, drink and smoke on the bus and the air in the bus was filled with cigarette smoke. I missed Singapore’s fresh air!!

4pm
We were given 2 hours to shop. To my surprise, there is a Singapore foodcourt at level 7 of the shopping mall. As the things sold in there are expensive (it is like Singapore’s Takashimaya), we went to eat at level 7at 5pm. After purchasing the stored value card, we bought food to eat. As photo-taking is forbidden, there is no photos for me to show you guys. Anyway, we ate prawn dumpling, 荷叶饭, sushi, roti-prata, ice kachang and a mango dessert (I can’t remember the name). It was not bad! Especially the ice kachang! It was taller than those found in Singapore and it cost RMB 16 (a typical price sold in foodcourts in Singapore). I disliked the roti-prata! It tasted sweet and I had no idea what flavor it is.

The one that I am not sure if it is air plane or hot air balloon appeared again:)
5.45pm
We went to hail a cab to go to Jiang Han Road (江汉路) for more shopping and food. To do so, we had to cross the road to the opposite side and for the first time in my life, I feared that I would get knocked down by cars. Cars, buses, cabs, motocycles , bicycles and people were all moving at the same time! There were no traffic lights or pedestrian crossing. It was a horrifying experience that I would not forget for my whole life. To hail a cab, one has to be fast in snatching/booking the cab. It is definitely different from that in Singapore. At last, we managed to hail cabs and off we go in four people in a cab (there are 13 of us plus the 3 local students).

7pm
When everyone had arrived, it was close to 7pm. We were given 1 hour and 15 minutes to shop at the small shopping mall. Although I said that it is small, there are many shops. What surprised me is that smoking and pets are allowed in shopping malls! The clothes sold are mostly long-sleeved which is certainly not the type that I wanted (I prefer t-shirts), Jas Min and I broke off from the group and went shopping on our own. We mostly window-shopped but I managed to buy 2 t-shirts and a small accessory (a gift for my brother so in case he views my blog, I shall not post the photo of that small accessory).
Dogs in some shops
8.15pm
We went to eat 小吃 nearby but then there is not a lot of 小吃 available so we didn’t eat a lot (I was glad that I had eaten something at Singapore foodcourt J) Something bad happened while we were buying cream puffs. A friend was being pick pocketed but thank god the pouch pick pocketed consisted of only dormitory room keys, small change like coins and a few small notes.

We took bus service number: 588 back to our dormitory.
10.45pm
The time we returned to our dormitory room. It was very late and we took turns showering and ate 生煎包 that we takeaway. It was not bad J

Reflections:
I really appreciate the time and efforts that Yuan Yuan, Betty and Star took to bring us out and answered questions that we posed to them. They are really, really nice people J
Some interesting information that I learnt:
1. Taking a taxi (德士, de shi) is called 打德 (da di)
2. Bus (巴士, ba shi) is called 公车 (gong che)

More exciting stories are yet to come:)
